A student protest for peace will take place on march 5th at all bend highschools including sunriver prep alongside hundreds of other schools across the nation. Students will walk out at 11:55am and meet in front of the school (you will be able to aquire details about the specific location if you ask around your school) and then proceed to leave the campus. It's encouraged that you give as many people rides as possible if you go to one of the schools that is farther away from the downtown area. Students will then going to a teach-in discussing the war in Iraq and its alternatives in the bend public library. Afterwards, students will march to the mirror pond plaza (the stage behind the breezeway) where a mock vote will be held concerning Bush's proposed war on Iraq. The results of that vote will then be mailed to congress along with the votes of other schools across the contry. This will show the people of bend and the country that the youth of today are not as apethetic as many people seem to think, and that we have an opinion on this war!
On the day of the walk out patches will be passed out to wear, possibly along with stickers and buttons. If you have your own, by all means, wear them! Also students will be dressing up entirely in black. If walking out of your school isn't for you but you would still like to show support, please do the all black thing. It would be pretty groovy of you. : D
The administrations of the high schools have so far been suprisingly supportive and we're not expecting anybody to get in any kind of trouble.
If you have any questions or comments you can e-mail them to bendwalkout@end-war.com
I'll be hoping to see you there!
